About SBJ

The St. Benedict Joseph Medical Center is a two story facility with consult rooms, a pre-op area, 4 operating rooms, recovery room, patient rooms for short-term recovery after surgery, a pharmacy, a dental clinic, and the St. Gerard Program for pre and post-natal care.

St. Benedict Joseph Medical Center (San Benito Jose) is a Medical Clinic located in Comayagua, Honduras that offers free medical assistance to those who would not otherwise receive it--the poorest of the poor. The Center is supervised by the Community of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal.

How It All Started

Soon after Hurricane Mitch wrought devastation throughout Honduras, the friars moved to Comayagua, Honduras and set up their first friary in Central America. After years of listening to the people, and discerning what their most pressing material needs were, the friars, under the leadership of Fr. Herald Brock, CFR, and in collaboration with Light of the World Ministries, started fundraising for a new medical center, the Saint Benedict Joseph Medical Center, and God provided! As Fr. Herald says so eloquently, the Saint Benedict Joseph Medical Center is quite clearly "a work of God."
