In 2001 the idea was born to provide free medical care and surgeries to those most in need. The Franciscan Friars of the Renewal and Light of the World Charities worked together to make this happen, and in May, 2004, St. Benedict Joseph Medical Center opened its doors to our first surgical mission.

Our facility is a small, Catholic surgical center and basic healthcare clinic strategically located on the outskirts of the colonial city of Comayagua, midway along the major Central American Highway that runs through the country.
